PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE
Under the direct supervision of the Swim Instructor Supervisor(s) the Community Center Swim Instructors provide excellent water safety and swim technique instruction to children while creating a memorable and enriching experience.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instructor: Help students (ages 3+) learn water safety and proper swimming technique. Learn every swimmer’s name and get to know them; be reliable, trustworthy, caring, and accepting; prioritize swimmer’s experience over personal issues; be fun and playful; write encouraging notes to families on progress reports and give positive feedback often. Be specific and clear when giving progress reports to students and families. Keep the summer progress binder updated after each weekly session. Know and implement the instructor handbook.
- Teammate: be available to work as scheduled for the entire season (provide consistency for the swimmers); if a sub is needed, be 100% responsible for finding the sub or be at work as scheduled; be willing and available to sub for others; pray for and encourage teammates; address inner-team issues directly, immediately and respectfully; work in partnership with the Adult Swim Workout Team, The Youth Aquatics Fitness Team, Center Summer Camp, Swim School, Facilities Team, and other Center leaders to provide detailed assistance for members and to continue to build an excellent aquatics facility and program.
- Student: Before starting job: complete necessary training for payroll, water safety/instruction and Lifeguard Certification, PCC swim school certification ; throughout summer: attend all meetings and training; strive to learn and grow as an instructor and as an individual towards God.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- Organizational skills: ability to be on time, alert, well rested, focused, remember details, dress in proper attire; take initiative, follow through with people, and make sure things get done.
- Certifications: certified Red Cross Lifeguard (or equivalent) and PCC Swim School certification
- Experience: 15 years or older; strong swimming and/or water survival skills; swim team experience preferred.
- Physical Requirements: This job requires a person to be in the water often and in the sun for the majority of the time spent working. Personal protective equipment for sun exposure is mandatory (sunscreen, shoes, hats, sunglasses, etc). Swim Instructors must be able to complete all rescue skills in the American Red Cross Lifeguard course at any point in time while working. This includes but is not limited to diving up to 12 ft under water, treading water for long periods of time, performing CPR, rescue breaths, in water spinal backboarding, and the use of an AED. Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds often.

Compensation: $18.00 - $18.54 per hour
