Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC) is a vibrant and forward-thinking church located in Redwood City. PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE
PRINCIPLE OBJECTIVE
Under the supervision of the Fitness Director and the Youth Fitness Coordinator, the Youth Fitness Instructor provides youth group fitness instruction, monitors and educates Center youth members and families on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants. Supports the Fitness program through assisting in holding a standard of program excellence and continually striving for personal spiritual growth.
PRINCIPLE ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fitness Class Instructor: Teaches scheduled classes, beginning and ending on time; provides adequate warm-up, exercises, stretching, and cool down. Instructs youth members on effective workout methods; explains proper techniques, demonstrates exercises; identifies different muscle groups, and teaches appropriate methods to strengthen specific muscles. Prepares appropriate equipment, music, and handouts for each class.
- Fitness Expert: Working knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology and training principles. Educated in youth fitness programming, modifications and training principles. Ensures that fitness program safety standards are met, and that department and facility policies are adhered to for all Center youth programs including Tennis, Fitness, Basketball.
- Fitness Class Developer: Possess up to date knowledge of youth group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm. Ability to use differentiated and inclusive strategies (exs: choreography, games, music) to encourage and motivate class participants.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Certifications: Must possess current Red Cross First Aid/CPR certification, Certified Group Exercise Instructor (SCW, ACE, AFAA) or equivalent. Additional specialty/certifications preferred for specialized classes such as Youth Strength, Boot Camp, Dance, Yoga, Tennis, Basketball.
- Physical Demands: This job requires exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly. Frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear as well as required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and must aid or assist participants in a timely and safe manner while continuing the task at hand. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must have a high degree of energy, be physically fit, and have the endurance to complete the workout as well as aid participants if needed.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
- Pay is per Class Rate
- Complimentary Peninsula Community Center individual membership (not including sub status)
WORKWEEK
- Approx. 1-6 hours per week depending on assigned classes.
Compensation: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
