Peninsula Community Center, a ministry of Peninsula Covenant Church (PCC), builds community by providing personal, healthy and meaningful connection through aquatics, fitness, tennis and community programming. PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE
As a Swim Coach, you will help young swimmers build confidence, develop their skills, and discover a love of swimming in a fun, supportive environment. PCC's Swim Team focuses on growth, teamwork, and sportsmanship rather than year-round competition. Through engaging practices, intrasquad meets, and team events, our coaches create an experience where every swimmer can succeed both in and out of the pool..
PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIP
The Swim Coach is part of a collaborative and supportive aquatics team, reporting to the Swim Team Supervisor and working closely with the Aquatics Coordinator, Programs Director, and fellow coaches. Coaches build positive relationships with swimmers, families, and PCC members while creating a fun, welcoming environment where every swimmer can thrive. Training and ongoing support are provided, making this a great opportunity for both new and experienced coaches.
WORKWEEK
- Availability to work during swim team hours: Monday-Thursday, 4:15-7:45pm; Friday, 4:30-6:30pm.
- Typical schedule of 2-8 hours per week, based on availability and assigned group.
- Attend all required trainings, meetings, and team events.
- Seasonal position running September through May. Comprehensive training begins in August, with a minimum two-month commitment.
SUMMARY OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead fun, engaging swim practices that help swimmers build skills, confidence, and a love of the sport.
- Support swim meets, team events, and other program activities to create a positive experience for swimmers and families.
- Build positive relationships with swimmers, families, and fellow coaches while communicating swimmer progress and any concerns with the leadership team.
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming pool environment by following all facility policies, safety procedures, and the Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
- Arrive prepared and ready to contribute to every practice, meet, training, and team event.
- Communicate schedule changes promptly, assist with shift coverage when possible, and work collaboratively with the aquatics team.
- Represent PCC with professionalism, positivity, and a team-first attitude while helping create an outstanding experience for our members and guests.
- Support other duties that contribute to the success of the swim team, aquatics department, and PCC's mission.
PROFILE SKILLS AND CORE COMPETENCIES
- Passion for coaching young swimmers and helping them build skills, confidence, and a love of the sport.
- Positive, dependable teammate who fosters a fun, supportive, and encouraging team environment.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety.
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification required.
- Must be at least 15 years old with strong swimming skills.
- Prior swim team coaching and swim instructor experience preferred, but not required! Training will be provided.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must be in the sun for extended periods.
- Must be able to hold children (ages 3-12) in the water, stand in the water, swim 300 yards continuously (breaststroke or freestyle), and tread water for two minutes without using arms.
- Must be able to perform all American Red Cross Lifeguard rescue skills, including but not limited to diving up to 12 feet, treading water for extended periods, CPR, rescue breathing, in-water spinal backboarding, and using an AED.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds occasionally and 15-20 pounds frequently.
- DOJ background clearance required.
- Must adhere to and model PCC’s Safe Church policies.

Compensation: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
